Sofie Arjon Schütte

Principal Adviser

I’m a social scientist, leading U4's work on corruption and anti-corruption measures in the justice sector, including anti-corruption agencies and special courts, and since 2024 also the thematic work on evaluation and measurement.

Before coming to Bergen and U4 in 2013, I was an adviser for the Partnership for Governance Reform in Indonesia. I also worked for the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Jakarta as an integrated expert. The KPK was the subject of my PhD thesis that I completed in 2012 at the Department of Management and Marketing and the Asian Law Centre at the University of Melbourne, Australia. I hold a Master’s degree in Southeast Asian studies, business and economics, and sociology from the University of Passau, Germany.

Over the years as a U4 adviser, I’ve had the fortune to do workshops and short-term assignments in many countries, including Afghanistan, Benin, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya, Kosovo, Malawi, Mali, Nepal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Ukraine, and Zambia.
