Implementors of the UNCAC increasingly face push-back: from individual attacks to the systematic undermining of anti-corruption institutions. We discuss the set-up of a Special UN Rapporteur on anti-corruption and its possible mandate to examine, monitor, advise, and publicly report on major right infringements of those fighting corruption.
Our one-hour virtual session on MS Teams brings togethers parties who have already proposed and/or are debating the establishment of a special rapporteur on corruption, and those who have helped investigators of corruption cases and others facing push-back in a panel discussion.
The goals of the special session are to:
- Raise awareness of and categorise the different kinds of push-back implementors of the UNCAC face.
- Compile examples of international support being extended.
- Learn from the experience of a current special rapporteur about the scope of their mandate and their special procedures.
